What You Should Know
At Peterson Family Dentistry, we strive to provide same-day care whenever possible, but we also want to ensure you have clear and realistic expectations about what that may involve.
Some urgent dental treatments may require sedation to ensure your comfort during the procedure. To be eligible for same-day sedation, the following conditions must be met:
-
You arrive with a responsible driver who can take you home.
-
You have not eaten or had anything to drink (including water) for at least six hours before your visit.
-
Your medical condition is stable. If you have high blood pressure, diabetes, are pregnant, or have a bleeding disorder, we may need clearance from your physician before sedation can be administered.
While we do our best to accommodate you immediately, please understand that emergency visits are treated on a first-come, first-served basis. Most of the time, we can fit you in, but there are occasions when our schedule is full, and a short wait may be necessary.
Multiple Payment Options
We accept all major PPO insurance plans and offer flexible financing options so you can manage payments over time. No insurance? Ask about our current specials—we’re here to make care affordable.
Your Personal Health Situation
We will always prioritize your safety and comfort. If your medical history includes serious conditions (e.g., uncontrolled hypertension, diabetes, or the need for antibiotics), we may require a medical release before proceeding with treatment.
Not All Procedures Can Be Done the Same Day
We treat most dental emergencies in-house, but some procedures may require:
-
A specialist or oral surgeon, who may not be available that day.
-
Lab work, such as for dentures or partials, must be sent out and cannot be completed immediately.
-
Multiple appointments are required, especially for complex treatments like dental implants or wisdom teeth removal.
If you have anxiety or need extensive work, sedation is likely recommended. For same-day sedation, we encourage arriving early in the day (preferably before noon) with an empty stomach and a designated driver. Also, call ahead to confirm if a sedation-trained dentist is available.
Over the phone, schedulers cannot guarantee anything.
If you're in pain or experiencing a dental emergency, don’t wait; contact our office today to discuss your situation and schedule a visit. We're here to help, and we’ll do everything we can to get you the care you need, as quickly as possible.
Our locations are convenient to Ooltewah, Harrison, East Ridge, East Brainerd, Collegedale, Cleveland, Cedar Bluff, and Chattanooga.
