Meet Dr. David Peterson, Cosmetic Dentist on Apison Pike

DR DAVID PETERSON DDS

Dr. David Peterson has cared for the Collegedale and Ooltewah communities from his Apison Pike office for 21 years. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in California, which gives him a personal connection to the SDA community he serves. Over his career he has treated approximately 25,000 patients, with most staying with the practice for five or more years.

Cosmetic work is a steady part of his weekly schedule. He has placed thousands of porcelain and composite veneers, completed hundreds of in-office whitening treatments, and handled hundreds of smile makeover cases. He commits to 25 hours of continuing education per year and has accumulated more than 800 CE hours since dental school.

In 2025 Dr. Peterson was named a Top Dentist in Chattanooga by BusinessRate. He serves as a lead dentist on mission trips with HELPS International in Guatemala and volunteers locally with AMEN clinics and Life Hope Centers.

Serving the Collegedale and Southern Adventist University Community

The Apison Pike office is roughly 3 miles from the Southern Adventist University campus. Faculty, staff, students, and SDA community families make up a meaningful share of the practice. Many patients first came in as undergraduates and stayed through marriage, kids, and parents who later moved to the area.

The practice also sees patients from McKee Foods, the longstanding Collegedale-based bakery, and from Five Star Food Service. The proximity to East Brainerd Rd and Apison Pike makes the office reachable from most of Collegedale in under 10 minutes.

Cosmetic Services Available Near Collegedale

The Apison Pike office offers the full range of cosmetic procedures. Each consultation starts with a conversation about what you want to change, followed by a written plan with cost ranges and a timeline.

Porcelain Veneers

Thin shells of porcelain bonded to the front of your teeth. Used to change shape, length, color, and alignment in one coordinated plan. Most cases take two to three visits. Porcelain veneers commonly last 10 to 15 years with good home care. Dr. Peterson has placed thousands of veneers over 21 years.

Professional Teeth Whitening

In-office whitening lifts stains from coffee, tea, red wine, smoking, and age in one same-day appointment. Take-home tray whitening over two to three weeks is also available. Results usually last 12 to 24 months before a touch-up is helpful.

Cosmetic Bonding

Tooth-colored composite resin used to repair chips, smooth uneven edges, close small gaps, and cover stains that whitening cannot reach. Most cases are finished in one appointment. The most conservative cosmetic option, often less expensive than veneers.

Smile Makeovers

Combines two or more cosmetic procedures into one plan. The process starts with photos, x-rays, and a wax-up so you can see the planned result before any work begins.

Dental Crowns and Bridges

A porcelain crown placed on a damaged tooth produces a cosmetic result and often has restorative insurance coverage. A bridge replaces a missing tooth by anchoring to the teeth on either side. Both are custom-fabricated and color-matched.

Friday Morning Scheduling for Sabbath Observance

The office is open Friday 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Closing at 1:00 PM means patients who observe a Friday-sundown Sabbath can finish treatment well before sundown and still have the afternoon at home. The Friday morning block fills first each week, so book a week or two ahead if you need that slot for a longer procedure.

Cosmetic appointments at the Apison Pike office can usually be scheduled for Monday through Thursday afternoons or Friday mornings. Longer procedures (veneer placement, full smile makeover sessions) work best in the morning when both you and the dental team are fresh.

Insurance, Financing, and New Patient Specials

We file in-network claims with most major PPO insurance plans, including the dental coverage carried by Southern Adventist University and McKee Foods employees. Purely cosmetic work is usually not covered, but restorative procedures that produce a cosmetic result (like a porcelain crown on a damaged tooth) often have restorative coverage. We verify your specific plan benefits before the consultation so there are no surprises.

For patients without dental insurance, we offer two new patient specials. The $125 new patient exam and x-rays gives Dr. Peterson the information he needs to plan cosmetic work. The $199 new patient exam, x-rays, and healthy mouth cleaning adds a cleaning when periodontal disease is not present. Both are first-visit-only and cannot be combined with insurance.

For larger cosmetic cases, we accept CareCredit financing with six-month and 12-month no-interest options on qualifying balances.

FAQ Section

How far is Peterson Family Dentistry from Southern Adventist University?

The Apison Pike office is about 3 miles from the Southern Adventist University campus and takes 7 to 9 minutes by car. Many SAU students, faculty, and staff use the practice as their dental home. The office accepts the major PPO plans most university employees carry.

Does the office offer Friday morning appointments for Sabbath-observant patients?

Yes. Peterson Family Dentistry is open Friday 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Closing at 1:00 PM lets patients who observe a Friday-sundown Sabbath reach the office in the morning, finish treatment well before sundown, and have the rest of the day at home. The Friday morning slots are the most-requested time of the week, so book a week or two ahead.

What cosmetic services are available at the Apison Pike office?

Porcelain and composite veneers, professional in-office teeth whitening, cosmetic bonding, porcelain crowns, bridges, smile makeovers, and clear aligner orthodontics. Dr. David Peterson has placed thousands of veneers and completed hundreds of professional whitening treatments over 21 years.

How long do veneers last?

Porcelain veneers commonly last 10 to 15 years with good home care. Composite bonding veneers last about 5 to 7 years. Regular cleanings and avoiding hard objects (ice, fingernails, pen caps) extend the life of both.

Do you accept dental insurance from Southern Adventist University and McKee Foods employers?

Yes. We are in-network with most major PPO plans, including the dental coverage carried by SAU employees and many McKee Foods (in nearby Collegedale) employees. We verify your specific plan benefits before the cosmetic consultation so you know your out-of-pocket cost in advance.

Is cosmetic dentistry covered by insurance?

Purely cosmetic procedures like elective whitening and elective veneers are usually not covered. Restorative work that also produces a cosmetic result (such as a porcelain crown placed on a damaged tooth) often has restorative coverage. We will tell you in writing what your insurance covers and what you would pay out of pocket before any work begins.

How much do veneers cost in Collegedale?

Veneer pricing varies by material (porcelain versus composite), number of teeth, and whether any preparatory work is needed first. Composite bonding is less expensive per tooth than porcelain. The consultation includes an itemized treatment plan with exact pricing. We accept CareCredit for cases that need financing.
